Schools - Universities - Library buildings
Concast has a long established record with the provision of precast educational buildings. Precast concrete schools, libraries and universities avail of the quality and the speed of construction provided by Concast. Precast concrete has an advantage over other forms of construction in terms of the speed of construction and quality of the finish of the wall panels, with minimal treatment required prior to the painter completing their works. Other requirements such as heat and sound insulation are inherent qualities of precast structures.
University and library buildings are availing of the extensive capabilities of precast concrete construction. Typically these buildings favour a natural concrete exposed finish, giving an organic living feel to the building. Particularly in university builds, there may be a requirement to integrate old and new buildings, which requires a particularly sympathetic architectural approach. Attractive architectural features such as high atriums, large opes for natural light and the use of interesting architectural units such as coffered vaulted units are popular on library and university buildings.
Modern class room designs often require greater flexibility in layout, precast concrete can deliver large open plan areas, in which light weight construction can be used to form the partition walls. Schools tend to be long/ low buildings which are typically cross wall structures, incorporating precast structural wall panels and floor slabs. Where lower and upper floor walls have quite different application in terms of layout, a transfer structure can be easily incorporated, with transfer wall panels acting as deep beams, concrete beams where required, allowing greater flexibility of design for the architect.
Typical precast elements include:
Concast can provide a wide variety of beams, such as edge beams, spine beams, lintel beams, balcony beams etc.Read More
Columns are available in a range of sizes and finishes. Square, rectangles and circular columns can all be cast, to any size required for a specific job. Single storey columns can be easily cast, these units are generally 2.5 - 4 m high. Beams bear directly on top of these units, with a dowelled connection between them.Read More
Wideslab is a solid precast slab, which is pre-stressed to provide excellent span/ ratio depth. The standard slab width is 2400mm and available in depths of 80, 100, 125, 150 and 175 mm depths (our standard sizes are 100 and 150mm). Wideslab is often used with a structural screed, to aid stability of the structure and increase its load capacity.Read More
Hollowcore Units derive their name from the circular voids or cores which run throughout the slab. The units have a smooth finish and maximum capacity of 2.3 kn/sqm over a 16m span. They are available in standard 1200mm widths and in depths of 150, 200, 250, 300 and 400 mm. They can be used effectively in all types of building providing a fast and cost effective structure.Read More
Concast manufactures stairs or combined stairs and landing units which have a smooth, quality finish.Read More
Concast’s wall panels provide a quality alternative to traditional forms of wall construction. Precast concrete structural wall panels can be used as internal cross-walls, internal partitions or exterior walls, providing a ‘fair faced finish’. Wall panels can provide bracing for single or multi-storey buildings.Read More
Concast’s Cladding Panels are an inexpensive and attractive system for the external face of buildings. These panels are generally 150 thick, and have a variety of finishes to suit all aesthetic requirements.Read More
