Construction is at an advanced stage for a new state-of-the-art distribution centre for Asda at Kingsway Business Park, Rochdale.
It will be a flagship development for Asda, designed to be one of the most environmentally sustainable developments of its kind in the UK. The low carbon development comprises of 530,000sq ft. chilled and freezer distribution, a plant deck with associated enabling and external works, offices and new car park.
McLaren Construction were appointed as the Main Contractors on this £41 million distribution facility for Asda. With sustainability a priority, the project has achieved, a BREEAM Excellent rating and 'A' energy performance rating during the design and pre assessment stages.
Concast is working with McLaren, providing a precast concrete solution for the distribution centre. Concast has a long established record in providing precast concrete for dock levellers at central distribution centres in Ireland and the UK. The precast concrete loading bays comprises of front and back walls measuring 1.2 -1.5m high. A precast concrete slab spans on either side of the dock leveller unit. The precast insulated sandwich panels comprises of two layers of concrete with a layer of insulation, which creates the surround to the dock leveller door. The precast sandwich panels are designed to cater for the temperature controlled warehousing, which ranges from ambient, chilled, to frozen storage areas.
This new distribution centre will give Asda direct access to the M6 accessing the north of England and will handle up to three million cases of chilled frozen food per week as well as other food products.
